In the circumstances I consider it advisable
that other arrangements should be made for the
administration of the services during the period
covered by the Supplementary Agreement. I should
accordingly be glad if the following proposals could
be communicated to the Company with a request that
they will reach a decision in the matter as early as
possible.
13. There is an urgent necessity for the
appointment of an experienced and qualified engineer
to be in charge of the Government Wireless Station at
Cape D'Aguilar, but I am reluctant in view of the
uncertainty of the future, and the immediate necessity
for economy, to expand the Wireless Staff in the employ
of Government at the present time. I would suggest therefore that the Company be asked to lend this
Government the services of such an engineer who would
be available on the completion of negotiations to
take over the management of the Company's services
during the transition period. Salary within the
scale £550 x £30 x £1,150 according to qualifications
and the usual allowances would be payable from
Colonial funds so long as he remained in the employ
of the Government.
14. I should be glad if the Company at the same time could be requested to provide on the same terms
three watch-keeping engineers, the scale of salary
suggested in this case being £475 x £20 x £575. Chief Electrical Engineer reports that owing to the
